Let’s Talk About Business Practices: How are You Associated?

IntegrityI’ve got to get this one thing off my chest already. I do so here because I would hate to see you just starting out and making this fatal error… not just mistake, I mean really fatal error.

Have you ever asked to receive information from an online marketer and then the next thing you know you’re receiving e-mails from people you’ve never heard of? Not just one e-mail, perhaps a polite offer to send their information. I’m talking about a barrage of e-mails – several times a day – every day! All the while you’re still receiving e-mails from that original marketer who never once mentioned that they shared your contact information. I had that unfortunate experience, well actually that’s putting it mildly – it was beyond annoying, a real pain in the arse. Okay, it didn’t take much effort to unsubscribe from that unsolicited marketer’s list. But, I was annoyed by the lack of principle of the whole thing. The original marketer violated my privacy and the unknown I was dealing with was making unwarranted assumptions about their relevance to me. Both lost me forever as a potential customer and business partner.

I don’t do spam and I absolutely respect privacy. I wouldn’t want to do business with those who didn’t share those same values. Would you?

I found a great online indication that serves to reduce the possibility of being bothered and distracted by such blatant unprofessionalism. It’s been around for a while and its creator, Mike Dillard, is this awesome internet marketer who is the mentor to some of the most successful internet marketers today. The Association of Better Networkers. When one becomes a member of this Association they agree to abide by principled business practices. They are aligned with my ethical values and probably yours too.

The ABN’s Better Business Practices

1.  They must have a “zero spam” policy and must not send unsolicited emails to their team members, customers, or prospects. All mass email correspondence must be CAN-SPAM compliant and contain an “unsubscribe” link for easy removal from their lists. They respect the privacy of individuals and will not sell or distribute their contact information to a third party without their permission.

2.  The company(s) they represent is in good standing with the FTC and sells value-based products that improve the lives of their customers.

3.  They do not represent, endorse, or promote illegal pyramid schemes, or “cash-gifting” programs.

4.  They do not represent, endorse, or promote “forced-matrix” programs.

5.  They pledge to provide training and support to their team members, and make their contact information readily available to customers and/or distributors.

6.  They pledge to conduct their business with honesty and integrity, and value these traits above any financial gain they may receive by violating them.

7.  They will continually further their education and development as an entrepreneur so they may earn the level of success they desire.

The Association can be accessed through BetterNetworker.com, an online community of home business owners.

I did the sensible thing and became a member – you really ought to do the same.

Great information that every marketer can use. We all end up with in-boxes full of other peoples dreams of riches, nothing is more annoying or time wasting every morning!. It would be nice if everyone would have the same standards as the ABN! Happy New Year to you and yours.
