How to Have Empowering Thoughts

Empowering ThoughtsDo you ever find yourself getting stuck in negative thought patterns and expecting the worst possible outcome in every situation?  It’s a common mind-set that sometimes is difficult to change when you finally decide you’ve had enough.  Unfortunately, negative thoughts tend to breed and multiply on their own – even when you’re not consciously trying to think negatively.

The good news is that turning a negative outlook into a positive one just takes a bit of patience and persistence until the positive thoughts begin to take over.

Below you’ll find three simple steps to begin forming empowering thoughts on a daily basis:

1)         Develop self-awareness to recognize negative expectations.  One problem with negative thoughts is that they often form below your conscious level of awareness, and you get so used to them being in your head that you hardly notice anymore.  To turn the tide of negativity, you’ll have to develop a stronger level of self-awareness.  One good way to start is by performing self-checks several times a day.  Pay attention first to how you feel.  If you’re feeling positive and productive, most likely you’ve been thinking empowering thoughts

However, if you notice that you’re feeling irritable, pessimistic or stressed, you’re probably focusing more on negative thoughts.  When that happens:

2)         Challenge and change the negative thoughts.  Believe it or not, it’s fairly easy to challenge and change negative thoughts with a little willpower and concentration.  For example, if you find yourself feeling doubtful about your ability to finish your work on time, you might engage in a bit of self-talk like this:  “Okay, so I’m feeling a bit worried right now, but really everything is okay.  I’m strong, I’m smart and I’m capable of finishing my work on time.  I’ll do my best and everything will work out fine.”  Even though nothing has changed in your outer circumstances, this type of self-talk can get you naturally having empowering thoughts more frequently and feeling more positive.

3)         At the same time, while you’re changing negative thoughts to empowering thoughts, work daily on developing a general positive expectation habit.  Each day when you wake up, affirm confidently, “Today is going to be a great day!  Everything will go my way and I’ll enjoy plenty of lucrative opportunities and fun!”

When you encounter obstacles or problems, see them as opportunities to learn, grow and strengthen yourself.  Perception is 99% of the game!  If you simply work on shifting the way you look at the experiences of your life, you can easily conquer your negative thought habits.

The more you focus on changing your perspective to emphasize the positive, your empowering thoughts will create better circumstances in your life.

Before you know it, you’ll be enjoying better and more frequent opportunities and attracting other likeminded, successful people to connect with.

That’s exactly what you deserve!!

To Your Triumphant Success,

Dena-Lynn

Thank you for your post Dena-Lynn. What helps me when I’m in the negative thinking mode is to remember past experience when I was happy. For example at my last holidays I enjoyed. Another thing that works for me is to go out in the nature. Especially when I go to the mountains then I’m instantly in a positive mood.

Hi Dena,

Thanks for sharing this empowering information.

For me, positive self talk and affirmations work well… We all have access to a powerful tool which when used regularly will increase our self esteem, and break through limiting self-imposed beliefs…It is called positive self-talk. Positive self-talk is an effective way to set goals and ensure that you stick to them.

Affirmations are a great way to re-program your mind with positive thoughts.
You are what you think about most of the time, so fill your mind with positive thoughts.

Thanks for sharing this powerful message,
Marc

Hi Dena,

I love your tips and tricks to overcome negativity. I have to say whilst it can be easy to sometimes slip into the negative thinking habit, when you practice being positive and optimistic daily it does start to become natural.

Self-talk is really essential and makes such a difference.

Hi Dena,
I love your strong sense of positivity!
Negative thought patterns are extremely invasive, and it sometimes takes everything we have to reach deep down within to grab on to who we DECIDED to BE, and who we truly are…rather than allowing those scary negative mexican crabs to pull us down!!

Hi Dena-lynn,

One of the most challenging things to do is actually changing how you think. Because we like familiarity, it’s easy to go back to old thinking patterns. If you’re able to “catch” unproductive thinking by raising your awareness of it, then it becomes easier to think more productively. Thoughts are powerful. Meditation can teach you how to catch your thoughts and change them. Wonderful post with great suggestions!!

Hi Lesly. Yes, when negative thinking patterns are the norm, they can be comfy to settle into. By engaging in a daily practice of replacing negative with positive thought patterns – soon positive thought patterns will be the new normal. Daily meditation is great or that.

Hi Dena-Lynn. This is a subject that is very important to me. I’ve struggled with negative thinking all of my life. My biggest problem is at night – I can really work myself into a tizzy unless I step back and take the time to banish negative thoughts. It’s difficult sometimes to maintain a positive attitude, especially when it seems that the world is coming down around our ears. I don’t watch the news, and that helps me to keep a positive perspective. As you said, negative thoughts are self perpetuating. Here’s to 2013 positivity!

All the best,
Leslie

Hi Dena, and thankfo all the information here. Thinking and being able to hold onto positive thoughts throughout theday is some times a strggle. By repeating and teling yourself that things are great is the way I am ableto fight te negitivity aaway. I noticed that you love the Serenity Prayer. This is one of my all tmefavorite prayers, and itdoes make a difference. I take thing as they are, and alays try to put a positive twist on them. By felling more positive and acting it out gives me courage to do better everyday. Then it seems as the older I get, I can clearly establish the diference from those negitive an positive thoughts, and feel a little more wiser nowadays!

It really helps to become habitually aware of our thoughts. I remember reading Awaken The Giant Within, by Tony Robbins, and his challenge to go on a 10 day Thought Diet to almost eliminate negative thinking. Scripture also teaches us to dwell on that which is good, noble, true, excellent, and praiseworthy. It all ties together.

Dena, Great post with valuable and practical points to keep our thoughts on a positive track. You are so right when you said that our thoughts often come from below our conscious level of awareness, so digging deeper as to why we may have a certain thinking pattern will help us to overcome any wrong pattern of thinking. Also, you spoke of perception being 99% of the game. It’s amazing how something can be so troublesome and then a bit later not be an issue at all. Ah yes, perception. Sometimes we just need to give something some time and a fresh outlook.
Have a positive filled day!

Thanks, Lynn! It’s always fascinating when those subconscious thoughts come into our awareness. It happened to me, just today, as I purposefully went deeper in an area that I felt that needed no attention.

Dena, I think sometimes we think we have put an issue behind us, only to discover that a certain thing, place, song will cause that situation to bring back thoughts that we did not know we felt! Then we go deeper, as you mentioned. 🙂

I enjoyed reading this very much. On a regular basis I am constantly doing a self check to see how I feel. This did not become a habit until I watched The Secret. It’s not a new concept to me. I had heard about it before but I guess if you have someone of authority speaking on the subject, then I allowed myself to believe.

Good ideas to stay mindful of our thoughts and that we do have the power to change them. Just like exercise or any other discipline we need to stay in practice and it gets easier and easier to stay positive.

Hi Lynn,
you are providing great suggestions for empowering our own thinking.

Yes, I agree, we need to be aware of our thoughts and feelings, and feelings can help us find the thoughts we need changing.
Our old conditioning is like a well trodden path and when we apply what you are suggesting we can build a new path and consciously guide our thoughts into that one.

Thank you so much for sharing this inspirational post.

Hi Dena-Lynn,
I find that listening and meditating to someone who’s reminding me of my strength and power of my mind, as well as positive affirmations, helps me tremendously. Nearly every morning, when I wake up, I listen to some “Brain re-training” by John Assaraf, and for the rest of the day I feel really good and have mostly positive thoughts. Of course, we need to have some negative thoughts at times, to identify what we don’t want, then we can turn that around to what we really DO want. Have a great weekend!
